Important LinkedIn Privacy Setting

Take a few minutes to login to your LinkedIn account to check that your settings do not allow LinkedIn to use your photo and name in “social advertising.”  They have over 100 million profiles.  They will find other faces and names to fill the void.  Go to your Settings in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

In the Settings window – click the Account tab (1) and Manage Social Advertising (2):

Setting LinkedIn privacy

The Manage Social Advertising window defaults to a check in the box – uncheck and hit the Save button:

Setting LinkedIn privacy

The “social context” is desirable when offering products.  People are more likely to make a purchase when referred by a friend.  However, until LinkedIn gets going with this and I see exactly what it is they plan to do – I am choosing to opt-out sharing my smiling face.
