Content Development for a Marketing Newsletter

Content Development for a Marketing Newsletter

In life, moments happen that fall in place perfectly. So perfectly, that if it were a Hollywood script, audiences would find it unrealistic because everything fell in place too neatly.

One of those moments happened when Laurie Hepworth – “foodie,” passionate gardener and local businesswoman – came upon an issue of edible Phoenix, a publication that is part of the edible Communities network. Edible Communities’ mission in their own words:Mission edible CommunitiesLaurie and Michael Hart realized this was an opportunity to be part of this process as a “broker” to introduce businesses to people like them in the South Shore. As local businesspeople, they realized they could help this community grow – to the benefit of the businesses and the people that are excited about the local food culture. In 2008, they launched edible SOUTH SHORE, a high-quality publication dedicated to the local community, season by seaon.

As publishers, Laurie and Michael have become the face of edible SOUTH SHORE. They attend events, farmer’s markets, and host monthly South Shore Locavores Meetings. They promote these events and more between issues with an opt-in online newsletter, a blog entitled Bits and Bytes, Facebook and Twitter. With the success of TIDINGS, their online newsletter, they developed the concept of a marketing newsletter for all businesses in the South Shore. They quickly built the subscription list using Constant Contact.

To create the newsletter, Laurie reached out to Gillis Marketing. She envisioned content similar to Diary of a Marketer, to bring promotional marketing ideas and execution to businesses in her market.
