Gillis Marketing – Very Open for Business

Gillis Marketing – Very Open for Business

Only 1 day left.  After 10 years at my DJ (Day Job) – there is only 1 day left.  As a W2 employee.

What happens next: on Monday, November 15, 2010 – Gillis Marketing is very open for business.

What is the best thing I could hope for when leaving the company I have proudly represented for 10 years – a multiple “Best Place to Work” award winner (according to both Boston Business Journal and Boston Magazine)?  Effective next week, my DJ becomes a client of Gillis Marketing LLC!

For 5 years, Gillis Marketing has worked with businesses as their outsourced marketing resource in addition to our weekday commitments.  We did it to help people succeed while keeping our skills fresh.  Win-win!

The company I have W2-employed with for 10 years gave me a great gift – an appreciation of the entrepreneur!   Now a 21 year old company, I joined them at the end of the dot-com economy (who knew?).  Led by the founder and namesake of the company, we remained true to her entrepreneurial spirit as we provided our services to our audiences throughout our growth.  Early in my time here, our leadership referred to us as “scrappy.”  As their sole marketing resource for many of my years there, I lived the word “scrappy.”  I learned how to market without the million dollar budgets of my past.  We increased our revenue 233% in 7 years by performing our services better and building relationships with our audiences.

Now I love the spirit of building a business.  I thrive on the hunger to create and passionately bring the product/service/problem solution to an audience.  Working at a job is not enough for me now.  I need to find people who are enthusiastic about how they make their living and use our skills at Gillis Marketing to bring that to reality with them.

Chris Brogan, an author I have gotten to know through social media, spoke directly to me from the stage at the #140Conf Boston.  Although I was sitting pretty far back – on the other side of the room than where he was facing.  What Chris said:

“There may not be many jobs, but there is a lot of work out there.”

Hallelujah!  Bring it!  With my employer for one more day (quite literally) continuing to support my goals,  I appreciate that I can spread my wings and still be part of the flock.
