Create a Username for your Business Page on Facebook

Once you reach 25 followers on your Facebook Page – you are able to create a simpler URL for your Page.  For example, www.facebook.com/GillisMarketing.  This simpler address helps you drive traffic to your Facebook Page to promote your business.  You can add to your website, business cards, and other marketing communications tools.

Before you proceed, be aware of the following:

1. Usernames are not transferable!  Be sure you do your company’s username from your account – do not ask another Admin on your account to do it for you.  They will “own” your username on their Facebook account.
2. Be sure you are happy with the name you create for yourself.  Once you create a username for your account – you cannot change it.  Also – be sure you spell it correctly before you hit the “Confirm” button.

Here are the easy steps to create your customized Facebook Page Username:

1.  Click on this link to Create New Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/username

2.  Once there – click on “Set a username.”

3.  This will bring you the following window  – which offers you a dropdown menu (A) to choose the Facebook Page you wish to create a username.  Then click “Check Availability” (B) to proceed.  If you have less than the 25 followers, you will see a message explaining you are not eligible for a username at this time.

4.  If you are eligible – you will reach a window to type your username into.  Be aware you cannot change this username – even if you have a typo.  Once you are satisfied, click “Confirm.”  You will see a warning window of the terms I mention here.  When you are satisfied, click “Confirm” again and you have your new Facebook Page username for your business!
